What It Really Means To Know Your Farmer

You’ve probably seen it on bumper stickers or printed on tote bags at the farmers market: Know your farmer. Know your food.

But... what's that really mean?
It’s not just about being on a first-name basis with every person who grows your groceries.
It’s about connection. It’s about trust. And it’s about getting out of the industrial food system that’s made it way too easy to stay in the dark.
So, what happens when you do know your farmer?
You stop guessing. You stop settling. You start making choices that feel good.
Around here we like to say "Know your farmer, trust your food."
And... You know what your food ate.
That “vegetarian-fed” chicken at the store? Sounds cute, but chickens aren’t vegetarians.
They’re natural omnivores pecking at bugs, scratching up seeds, living how nature intended.
When you know your farmer, you know your chicken didn’t grow up in a warehouse eating soy pellets under fluorescent lights.
You know it spent its days in the sunshine, on fresh pasture, being a chicken.

And... You know what kind of life your meat had.
We don’t raise animals on concrete. We don’t ship them across the country. And we sure as heck don’t treat them like factory products.
When you buy from us, you’re supporting a farm that honors the animal start to finish.
Our hogs root in the woods and are fed a diet that is unique to their nutritional needs.
Our cows graze on grass and get a local grain finish that supports muscle development and flavor.
Our chickens move to fresh pasture daily in the sun (and the rain) where they can act just like they're supposed to.
That’s the kind of life we’d want if we were animals. And that’s the kind of life your food deserves.
And... You get straight answers.
Confused by labels like “natural,” “free range,” or “grass fed”? Yeah, most people are.
Those words don’t mean what you think they do and grocery store meat companies bank on that.
When you know your farmer, you don’t need a decoder ring.
You can ask, “How are your animals raised?” and get a straight-up, no-fluff answer.
You can come see for yourself. You’re not trusting a sticker... you’re trusting us.
And... You support a real family.
Not a corporation. Not a shell company.
A real family with mud on our boots and kids riding bikes past the cows on pasture.
You’re putting your dollars behind folks who care deeply about doing this the right way, not the fastest or cheapest way.
And here’s the best part: when you know your farmer, we get to know you, too.
We know what your kid likes in their lunchbox. We know your freezer situation. We know when you’re out of sausage because we see that look in your eyes at the market.
We see you. And we’re here to help.
Knowing your farmer isn’t just cute...it’s powerful.
It’s taking control of what’s on your plate. It’s knowing where your food came from and how it was raised. It’s peace of mind, nourishment, and connection all in one.
So if you're looking for a farm you can trust, one that’s transparent, local, and raising meat with intention. Hey! you’ve found it.
We’re right here.
Come meet your farmers at Edwards Family Farms.
Let’s feed your people well together.
